Program Name : Sangopan

Beneficiaries: From Conception to 3 years (including pregnant women and lactating mothers)

  • In this program, we guide and promote ‘age-appropriate development’ of infants and toddlers. We also run interventions with pregnant women, lactating mothers, fathers as well as older siblings - to facilitate sustenance of development beyond centre timings.
  • We teach and coach parents of infants/toddlers to engage their children through communication and play using the space and materials that they have, in their current homes. We recognize that the construction workers already have their hands full, so using a ‘what-they-have approach’ makes their lives easier.
  • Our field staff makes home visits to continue guiding the families. This empowerment of families will ensure that the child continues to receive stimulation even after the family leaves the construction site and moves to a place that has no facilities for promoting development in children

Specific examples of this program, including but not limited to

Program Name : Khelghar

Beneficiaries: Children aged 3 to 8 years

  • We run a ‘Balwadi' at each day-care centre. It is a cheerful and bustling place where children in the age group of 3 to 8 years gather every morning, after their mothers go to work on the construction site
  • We start their day doing free-play with learning-aids which are geared to their age or developmental stage
  • This is followed by ‘Circle-time’, where we encourage children to share some “News” from their lives. Other children ask questions to the “news-teller” to gather more information about the news. This is followed by prayer time
  • o help prepare these young ones for formal education, our Balwadi program covers the basic 3 ‘R’s. We then add-on essential skills such as sitting in one place, listening and comprehending, attending to a task, sharing, completing a task, keeping back the material in its original place. We ensure that such habits get ingrained in their behaviors.
  • We leverage the magic of music, dance and play-way to make their learning an enjoyable experience. This helps to drive high attendance and long term engagements
  • After all this fun and learning, our children sit down to have their lunch and later, a good two-hours sleep in the afternoon to recharge their batteries
  • We mix regular fun-learning with occasional Nature-walks, visits to the local market or garden are activities to keep them interested and also give them an exposure to the outside world.
  • After a day well-spent playing and exploring new worlds of learning the toddlers happily go home when their mothers come to fetch them at the end of their working day from the construction site.
